I would like to learn more about a S & W 38 Spcl, blue steel ctg, 6" revolver. The number #28843 is stamped inside the gun on the crane, but the number #120921 is stamped on the metal at the butt of the gun. I don't see a model number. I believe the original owner purchased it in the 1950's, but I could be mistaken.

Andrew..... The gun could be one of several models. The number on the butt, 120921 is the serial number. The other number is a part #.

Your gun sounds like it may be a pre-model 14 K-38. The ser number would indicate it was made in 1951. S&W didnt start putting model numbers on the guns until 1957. (Related email enroute)

    Does it look like this......
