Colt 1911 S/N?

Would 2678XX be a Colt 1911 serial number? Only other marking on frame is "united states property."
A friend just got the deal of the century on this gun-regardless of what it turns out to be!
Via phone description, it has a 1911 slide, last patent date 1913.

Blue Book says it is one of the many guns made in 1918 for the great spring offensive of 1919. Naturally originality and condition count a lot.

Saw the gun today. It's a legit 1911 Colt. A little rough, but he traded a $50 item for it! It has plastic GI grips, but otherwise is all 1911.
