Ruger Compact in 7mm-08

I have been looking for a smaller rifle for my wife and eventually my son. I have the opportunity to pick up a M77 MK II Compact in 7mm-08 with a Burris 3-9x40mm scope on it for 525.00. Do you think that this is a fair price for this rifle. It has had less then 20 rounds through it and appears to be in great shape. What do you think?

the scope if purchased new would be over $200 so it seems a pretty good price to me

I think that sounds like a very good deal. I have a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in 7mm-08, as well as a Remington 700 Youth model in the same caliber. The only concern I might have with the Ruger is that it weighs only 5.5 lbs, a full pound less than my Mountain rifle and almost 1.5 lbs less than the youth gun I have. While not a hard-kicking caliber, the lighter weight certainly means higher recoil.

For carrying while hunting, however, the 5.5 lb weight would be wonderful. If the Burris scope is a decent one, it's an especially good deal.

buy it,
not a tack driver at longer range but plenty good enough for hunting. i have one and love it.

If it's like the two or three i"ve sold to my customers, It'll group 1MOA out of the box with factory ammo..... A really nice ladies / kids rifle....

+1 on what Jim Stark said. Ruger has a bad rap on accuracy. I think the Model 77 MKII's are better than that. I have one in .257 Roberts and it does well. The 7mm-08 cal is accurate to beyond 1K yds. I think it's a great rifle for new and recoil sensitive shooters. Just don't load it ridiculously hot, if you do reload.

Mine is in .308 and accuracy is OK. About 1 1/2" to 2" at 100 yds. Nice to carry, but recoil is stout in this small package.
