What is the big deal about "TALLEY bases?

Why are they considered the top of the line in mounts?

Only by some. They are good, though I think not as good as when Dave Talley was making them, but they are very well made. I particularly like the rings, vertically split rather than horizontally.

These days I prefer Burris Signature Select.

the rings have a tolerance better than most as far as uniformity from side-to-side. They also have an integral recoil lug for the rings to butt up against and offer almost no room for a loose ring to travel. They must use Talley rings as well,..but they have proven to be great for me. They also are much more aesteticaly pleasing than other, more bulky set-ups.

Also,..the veritcal split ring design and the quality of machining.
