I'm wanting the best scope for no more than $750.00(unless there is a real standout that is worth an extra $50.00-$100.00).
I have a Leupold picked out. It is the VX III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range Side Focus with a 30mm Tube. I was also wondering if the illuminated model is worth the extra money.
I was also looking into Sightron but I can't seem to find a lot of information about them. Can anyone help me out here? Are they as good as Leupold?
Are there any other brands I should look at?
I'm using this for big game and varmint hunting, maybe some target shooting (nothing serious). The gun I am using is a Remington Model 700 308.
Any information/suggestions would be helpful.
Thank You

I have always been the kind to lean more towards the higher end scopes, "you get what you pay for" kind of thinker. But do you think that some scopes may just be better "suited" for an individual. I guess what I am trying to say is that I do not believe that there is much difference in the higher end companies, Swarovski, Zeiss, etc.. But maybe different ones just "fit" an individuals eyesight better than others. I am not talking relief but just image quality. <p>
Does any of this make sense, or do I just have too much time on my hands to think about this?
what is the best scope on the market for $300.00 or less to go on a 300 Winchester short mag.

Normally I do not carry a scoped rifle.
If I do so, will the scope setting be affeted by the bounce, etc?

Check out all the scopes on the site dfletcher gave you. some pretty good deals there.
You are going to find very good deals in the 3-9 ranges of power. The price jumps up when you go either to 3.5-10 or 4(4.5)-14. Thats just because the demand for 3-9 power has been there so long, and they are the best selling range of scopes. SFWA has a 3.5-10x50 Fullfield II for $279.00
The best deal for you from SFWA, I would say, is the Weaver classic V-series scopes. I like their optics of today...as opposed to the darkness of the past with them. Anyhow, medium priced scopes run in the $150-$200 and the highest power 4-16x50 runs $289.00 shop around and see what you find.
Heres another site:

don't forget you can also look for some pretty good deals right here on the auction side.

+1. Consider VX-I & IIs also. I like Leupold for their forgiving eye relief - 3"-3.5" for most vs 3.5"-5.0" on Leupolds.
