Mitchell Mausers

Every month I get a magazine or two with the
mitchell ad for 8mm mausers. They are really tempting.
On other forums I've heard many negative things, but I'd like to hear from someone who has bought one.
Are they as sweet as the picture in the ad?

Anybody out there purchased a 98 that they advertise? The picture they show looks sweet, but is that what you get when you buy one?

They are not collectors really, because they have been refinished. However if you want a nice looker and shooter, they may be worth it. Like many K98's the earlier the better for smooth machining and fit and finish. I bought a mismatched K98 in 2005 for 149.00. Metal was great, and the stock was sound. They just didnt match serial numbers. A elbow grease cleaned them up nicely for a rifle very close to what they sell for so much more.

I don't have one myself but I have almost a dozen friends that bought some Mausers from them and they are all excellent shooters and lookers. If you get a chance to buy one, do it! I'm getting one here real soon.

I got a great 98k I bought at Dunhams sporting goods that only cost me 50$ its Czeck made I think it was never fired and still full of cosmoline I completely rebuilt it from the ground up and sporterized it with a new stock and scope and now its my deer rifle already killed a nice 9 point with it. If you decide to buy one that way (they wont have bent bolt handle) Inspect them thouroughly. alot arent worth even looking at alot shot out with mismatched bolts and bolts that wont shut ect. Good luck on your investment.

If it doesnt have a bent bolt and its Czech, you dont have a 98K. You either have a 98/22 or a Vz24. I have the 98/22 which has the 29in barrel and once you clean them up they are nice. I got mine there a few years back for 99 bucks. A bunch of scrubbing with mineral spirits, and a donor stock from ebay and it was a nice looking gun, and SMOOTH.
