I'm trying to build a rifle similar to the military's M24 or whatever it is. I am using the Remington 700 style rifle. i just need some help on ordering parts. who has the best barrels, trigger assemblies and bolts. also, do i have to buy the barrel and bolt etc. together to insure proper mating of the parts? Is there any website that explains all of the specs on barrels?

As far as the mating of all the parts, I recommend a gunsmith! Here are some specs on the M24 SWS but I am recluctant to remember some details

Sights: 10 x 42 Leupold Ultra M3A telescopic sight (Mil-Dot), detachable emergency iron sights (Redfield Palma International).
    Barrel: 1 twist in 11.2 in (284 mm), 5 radials, free-floating.
Stock: HS Precision - adjustable for length of pull.
Expected accuracy: 1.0 MOA with M118, 0.75-0.50 MOA with M118LR, and 0.50 MOA with commercial match grade ammunition.

Here is a link to some guys that know a hell a lot more about the M24 SWS than I do!

    tstivors,

Remington 700 Long action. Remington makes all the parts for the rifle with the exception of the stock which I believe is an H-S Precision. They have a Picatinny rail base or MARS(modular accessory rail system). The scope is a Leupold M3A 10x42(MK4) The barrel is made of 416R stainless with a 1-11.2" twist. The M24A2 is a variation that can be silenced and/or modified to take a .300 Win Mag. The M24A3 is rebarreled to .338 Lapua.
If you are making an authentic replica those are the things you will be looking at.

Here is another link to add to the great link jtmarine0831 provided:

    Edit:

    JustC,

The test rifles all had the Obermeyer 5R rifling and were built by Mike Rock. But the production M24's are supposed to be Remington 'in-house' made barrels

Why not just get a Remington 700 PSS? It comes with a H-S Precision stock, and you can add the optics. I have a PSS-LTR and it is a tack driver just the way it came from the factory. All it needed was a trigger adjustment.

M24 barrels are either a Rock creek or Obermeyer, either has a 5r rifling. The current version wears an HS Precision tactical stock that can be ordered in any number of places.
