Can someone please tell me how to remove the bolt from a Mossberg model 340b? This is for cleaning but I also had a desire to boresight it (it has tasko 4x15. Or do I have to purchase a laser shell if one exists in .22?

Thank you.

If I recall right (first make sure its unloaded) pull the bolt back half way, then hold the trigger down then slide the bolt out.

Thanks for the input but that doesn't seem to work. There is a curved metal rear behind the bolt that seems like it might give but it doesn't (and lifting it a bit by itself makes the trigger move a bit with it).

    Welcome to the forums td~

Goin' back for this..but lets give it a try..Make sure its unloaded..You'll have to remove the stock, and make sure the bolt is closed and cocked..With the stock off, you'll see a lever on the underside/rear of the receiver..Push this forward and the receiver cap can be removed..CAREFULLY open and pull back/remove the bolt..The caution is that you DO NOT want to pull the trigger and drop the hammer while the bolt's out..I don't recall the exact steps..but should it fall(fall as in being fired)..it's a chore to get it back..more involved than just re-cocking the hammer..Good Luck..

I'll give it a try. Might wait a few hours or days to get up the courage to open it up that much. I would have thought it would an easier thing to do given the later Mossbergs are no trouble. Appreciate the input.

Ahh..ya don't need courage..just a screwdriver for the stockbolt [8D]..It's not that touchy at all..just something to be aware of..A lotta people just like to pull triggers and/or don't like to leave a gun cocked..just don't do it with this one..

And no..there isn't an "Easier" way..only one way..

Well, you're right. Thing is, the two bolts that hold on the butt plate..well, never mind, I'll remove them in a few minutes. Not much to lose now. The bolt won't pull back. Somehow a metal extension from the back of the bolt that rides over the top when you pull it back is now depressed and blocks the bolt going back. I can cock the gun by lifting that piece of metal up and over as the bolt slides back but that can't be right...and I don't know what caused it to drop like that. Anyway, I'll take off the back because if that isn't it, I'll have to admit defeat and......take it to a gunsmith in the a.m.
    Thanks again

took off the butt plate. It only covers the bottom of the stock.

Well....dumb me. I unloosened the OTHER BOLT that holds the barrel on the stock. That released the stock which gave access to the thing in the back blocking removal of the bolt. Depress the lever and out comes the bolt. So you were right, I just misunderstood the instruction....
The bolt came out. The bolt is in. But the bolt plate was bent down preventing the bolt going back. Sooo I started to bend it back up to straighten it. Didn't see any other way. That snapped it. A new bolt plate is about 1.50 but I don't see how to undo the bolt to get the ring off that holds the bolt plate so as to put on a new one. The gun fires without it.
Anyway, thanks for all the advice

Well I'm glad you got it TD..As I was reading "buttplate"..I'm thinking WTH ???[8D][8D]..As far as working on the bolt, have a shop take a look..I'm not exactly sure of the function of the bolt plate..I remember the ring is easily broken when trying to remove it..Enjoy..
