Convert 44 Russian for 44 Special - Revisited

Some weeks ago I reported on this - a S&W first model DA (break down type) made or at least sold around 1912-15. I made a reamer and deepened the chambers in the cylinder to take the .44 Special. Today I fired it about 40 rounds or so, normal off the shelf ammo, not Cowboy. It is a well used gun with a fair bore. It prints about 4" high at 25 yards grouping as well as I can hold. By comparison I shot my 1915 S&W Hand Ejector .45 Colt (converted from .455). I shot both Cowboy and full charge rounds and frankly could find no difference except the Cowboy report did not sound as loud as the standard rounds. I loaded some alternately in the cylinder to try to determine a difference.
If the old .44 had a higher front sight, comparable to the .45 I think it would have been pretty much on target. I call the project a success.
