Cylinder problem with S&W 10

I have a S&W 10 that I bought in used condition earlier this year. When I shoot it, the cylinder occasionally binds up when cocking. At first I thought was because I was using reloads, and perhaps my primers were not seat correctly. I shot with factory ammo, and it still has the problem. It cycles fines without ammo. Before I go to a gunsmith, I'd appreciate any ideas what may be causing this. I hope it's not an expensive fix.

It is possible that the ejection rod is coming loose and causing this. It has a counter Clockwise thread. This happened on my 41 mag. Grip the cylinder and see if the rod will unscrew. If it does clean it and apply a little locktite, that should take care of it. It could also be a bent crane or lead build up on the face of the cylinder and forcing cone or gunk under the star wheel. That is about all I can think of.

Also look between the ejector and cylinder for powder granules.
Hold the cylinder forward and measure the gap between barrel and cylinder with a feeler gage. Do this at each chamber.
You should see .005" minimum. If not, the cylinder is dragging on the barrel when dirty.

Very good advise at this point , check all the above , if still having issues , take it to a 'smith' and have it fixed , nothing worse than 'home gunsmithing' to ruin a good gun.........
    Thanks !!!
