I have a Mauser K98 with this badge/pin ? I have not been able to find any info on it. Also, I wanted to thank everyone for there bits of knowledge that you so easily share. I hope to one day be able to pass it on as you have done. Thanks, Tom

I have a feeling that this is a surplus rifle stock as I would not want to be running around in the field sporting it. But looking forward to hearing what it actually is.

Fallschirmschutzenabzeicchen, 5.11.1936...According to My Book on German Medals the Eagle was inside an Oak Leaf Laural...Its been cut out and Spike or a Tack added so that a Paratrooper could affix it to the Stock of His K98............

I highly doubt a German soldier put that there. You should probably remove it without damaging the wood.

Wouldn't surprise me. I have several k98 bayonets with initials carved into the grips.

What Falschimjaeger would destroy his badge? It was probably even againist regulations. Are you sure the bayonet initials are Krauts?
A name I could understand, but do cops put badges on their shotguns? [;)][8D]

I don't know for sure, but I've seen a number of G.I. trophies brought back with afew "extras" the G.I. has incorporated into the trophy. I'd bet afew bucks this is what has happened here.

Perhaps we gain insight as to the legitamcy of the medal/rifle combo if you tell any known history of the piece. Is it a family member vet bringback?

Is it a genuine altered badge. I bought several "real" looking Nazi medals that turned out to be fakes several years ago. So obviously I don't know enough about them to spot a fake

One that didn't give a damn. Not every German paratrooper was a willing and merry soldier. As for my bayonets, I think I would know since it has German markings on the blade and one letter has an umlaut on it so its definitely Kraut. It could be a later GI thing, but who knows without a first hand examination. My grandfather had the unpleasant duty of fighting on the Eastern Front for two years, and not all was orderly. I guess one question should be, where did he get the Mauser from?
