Question re: my new AR-15

I'm mad.

Just got a new RRA Tactical CAR A4! But, I ordered a chrome lined barrel and don't believe it came with one. Is there a way to tell (should the inside be silver when brand new)? I checked the stamp on the barrel, it doesn't indicate being Chrome-lined.

Thanks for your help!

    Did you get the label stuck to the outside of the blue case? I recently ordered one from RRA with the chrome lined barrel. I will go check the label and see what it says. I think the label has all the options listed.

    EDIT: Yes the label has a series of boxes on it CM, CL and SS.

    Hope this helps

    I got these codes off of the ar15 forum. This should help you know what you have on your platform:

    Applicable "codes" for 223 barrels:

    Old Codes:
    Three characters side by side over the chamber.
    First Character: N or W...N for NATO chamber or W for Wylde
    Second Character: 8 or 9...8 for 1:8 twist and 9 for 1:9 twist.
    Third Character: A, S, or C...A for moly (chrome -moly Alloy), S for Stainless, and C for Chrome-lined alloy.

    New Codes:
    The actual base part number from our parts system/catalog, located over the chamber. These are the most common. Unless indicated otherwise, all stainless barrels are 1:8 twist and all moly barrels (chrome-lined or not)are 1:9. All 16" moly barrels have a NATO chamber, while the 20" moly and all stainless barrels have a Wylde chamber.

    200 =moly CAR
    200CL =Chrome-lined CAR
    202 =moly R4
    204 =Chrome-lined R4
    205 =Chrome-lined light-weight R4, 1:7
    206 =Stainless CAR
    208 =16" varmint
    210 =moly Mid
    212 =Chrome-lined Mid
    215 =Stainless Mid
    218 =18" varmint
    219 =Chrome-lined light-weight R4, 1:9
    220 =moly Std (rifle)
    221 =Chrome-lined Std (rifle)
    222 =Stainless NM(rifle)
    223 =Stainless NM (rifle), unthreaded
    226 =20" varmint
    228 =24" varmint (1:8)
    229 =24" varmint (1:12)

    YOU MAY START TO SEE SOME "S" AND "C" MARKINGS AFTER THE NUMBERS...THE "S" FOR STAINLESS ANDTHE "C" FOR CHROME-LINED...PRIMARILY TO HELP PEOPLE BOTH IN-HOUSE AND OUT TO KNOW AT A GLANCE WITHOUT HAVING TO REFER TO A CATALOG.

    Steve/RRA

    Edited 07-07-06 to include chrome-lined 20" rifle bbl (AR0221).

    So Now I'm wondering if I have the CL barrel I ordered. Is there anyway to see this code with a Quad Rail on? I am looking but don't see the code.

    Mine is about 1/2 inch in front of the delta ring under the gas tube. You will probably have to take the handguard off to see it.

    Thanks medic 07, I just went to the thread on AR15.com/Industry/RRA and looked through it.

    Chromecoated barrels have a dull grey border against the blue or park. They are not shiney like a 1968 Cadillac bumper.

    Post a good pic of the muzzle.

    I saw the barrel codes from the internet, mine says 200 - plain CAR barrel. My case is not marked as being "CL" either. As for the muzzle pic, no good camera (I'm not at my house). I took it apart for a pre-firing cleaning when I noticed the problem... luckily, the rifle has NOT been fired. Hopefully, my guy doesn't just try to stick me with the rifle and simply refund $35. I have a feeling this is going to be a problem.

    I think either my dealer put the screw to me or it was an honest mistake - although he's kind of shady.

    I hope your barrels are chrome if you paid for them. I suppose this just goes to affirm the necessity to check and make sure everything is right before you leave (I think I was just too excited).

    Hopefully it was an honest mistake and he will take care of you. If not I would contact RRA. They have a representative (Steve) on ar15.com under the industry section. I just emailed him asking what barrel my rifle left the factory with.

    Hope it works out for you.

    Update:

    According to RRA my rifle left the factory with a CL barrel...

    They told me that the barrel stamps don't always match what exactly is on there (what's the point in stamping then?). Also, my case is not marked as being CL. Nonetheless, the customer service lady says it's chrome lined.

    I don't know what to think, although it is a nice looking rifle.

    Well if the bore cleans very easily, then you will definately know if its chromed or not.
