Anyone have instructions for loading snale shot in 45 ACP. Would prefer a load that will work the action.

Hello I once made up some 45 ACP shot loads by cutting back some 308 winchester cases to 1.240 OAL. loading with bullseye powder installing just the base of 410 shot shell wad and then necking the case I think with a 41 mag pistol die. "Looked sort of like a big 357 SIG case " then filling with shot and sealing with wax at the case mouth they would function the pistol but shot pattern was the pitts. Maybe in a smooth bore they would work better. The military made some shot cartridges for the 45 but they are now collector items $$$ and I don't think they will function the pistol .[:0][:0]

Edit Hey RCrosby looks like there are at least 2 old F***s stupid enough to spend time to make some of these things. I think I saw a write-up in a magazine as I am not smart enough to come up with the idea on my own[:p][}:)][:o)]

RCBS sold loading/forming dies for this, I'll bet that they have some loading data. The military rounds I shot would cycle the action of my 1911 but usually hang up ejecting, needs a larger port like a M3 or Tommy. As I recall they would not fit down in mag only the top first round. Patterns are usually poor with shot in contact with quicker twist rifleing. I had a S&W 25-5 in 45 Colt that shot really good with #9 shot between a cup up and down gas check. CCI made snake rounds in a box of 10. I have a box but don't remember trying them. In my 45-70 and the 45-350M I use a 410 wad with the 44 Hot Shot Capsules. These pattern like a real shot gun. I have used cut off 410 shell and a roll crimper with card wads to make my own capsules but more testing is required.

The CCIs work and function fine in my 1911. Deadly for about 7 yds on snakes, and starlings.

I have used .45/70 shot cartridges for a long time in my trapdoor carbine. I use the standard 2 1/2" .410 loading with toilet paper for wads & a .45 cal gas check crimped in over the shot.
Works great on stations 1,2,6,7 & 8 on skeet. On stations 3,4 & 5 I might as well be throwing salt.

GERI. You say that the CCI shotshells work and function fine in your 45 acp. Do you mean they actually cycle the slide?

I have used the CCI's in Les Bear's and they shoot great!! I havbe used them in EAA Witness Target with great results as well. I have not had any hang up or fail to eject. Pattern pretty nice to about 10-15 feet. Bad news for a rat or snake or a rowdy dog.

    Perry Shooter,
I have half a dozen shot rounds that appear to have been made exactly as you describe; .308 brass, wax covered wads, etc. They look like they were turned on a lathe to give the slight acp length "shoulder".
Picked 'em up in S.E. Alaska back in the early '70's.

    Perry, make that 3![:)]
I carried a fullmoon clip loaded with them for my 1917 New Service when pig hunting in NorCal back in the early 70's. Quail and Grouse in the heavy brush didn't have a chance. I got tighter patterns at 10yrds by dripping beeswax onto the shot, and later went to the Speer .44 mag shot capsules.
I dumped all the brass I made when CCI came out with their shot load.

I used to have the RCBS shot shell forming dies, also an early set.... I can't recall the maker. I sold them after forming 50 or so shells, have never loaded any so can't speak as to how they function. Emery

I load shot into the plastic .45cal sleeves and shoot it with tite group loads taken off the can in 45 ACP cases. It shoots boring bees just fine.

I wish I could find the #12 dust shot CCI uses in the 22 shot caps. I called everywhere and can't find it.
