17 HMR vs 22 Magnum

Does a Rem 597 in 17 HMR have same bolt and recoil spring as the Rem 597 in 22 Magnum has, or does it take a different bolt and/or recoil spring like the 17 Mach II and 22 LR versions?

I have checked Gunparts corp and Remington's website for parts list, both sites list most all the parts for the 597 buy either MAGNUM parts or LR parts.

I would assume then that they are the same. But you know what assumptions can lead too

but if in doubt call I would Remington

not very familiar with the 597, but if they are anything like the mag calibers in Rugers 10/22 usually the only difference is the bore diameter and chamber dimensions. Exception being standard 22lr and 17 HM2, you need a different action spring for the HM2. That is the wonderful thing about different cartridge based on an older round. Like all the wildcat and child rounds from the 30-06 and 308, 9 times out of 10 all that is different is chamber and or bore deminsions. The manufacturers aren't as dumb as they act sometimes. This same a boatload in reducing cost on extra tooling. Heck, just send an email to Remington, I'm sure they would be happy to help. Anyway, let us know what you find.

Remington say the bolt and spring are the same in both 22 Mag and 17 HMR 597 Rem.

I have shot both now, 22 Mag and 17HMR. I like the 17HMR better. Flatter shooting and twice as accurate. 3/4 inch at 100 yds vs the 22 Mag 1 1/2 inch. I think I will be just selling the 22 Mag barrel.

Did more testing. The 17 HMR in the Rem 597 with a Jarvis hammer is the the way to go! One really sweet shooting gun!!

Me personally, I would keep the 22Mag barrel, but that's just me! Glad you like the HMR, it is a wonderful cartridge, especially for a rimfire. The only down side to it is the effect the wind has on it.
