550-i with dimes in the stock?

i have a remington 550-i with dimes from 1950 imbeded in the stock but i cant find info on this is it rare or did someone just put these in themselves.

    They were inlaid by some previous owner, not at the factory. It actually destroys any collector value the rifle might have had, but it might look ok. Decorating stocks with coins or brass tacks goes back at least 150 years. Native Americans in the 1800's often did so.

    1950's dimes are worth more then $.10 each [:p] If there are enough of them 1000 or more [}:)]

    WRONG! The dimes are 90% silver and worth about $1.20 EACH!

    AND if you look around a bit, there is a company making really nice WALNUT repro stocks for the 550 series- about $60 ea. Have a pair of 55os, and they are tack drivers.
