hi all
i have a sako deluxe stock, right handed with a L691 action in .270 winchester. i want to replace the action & caliber. what other sako actions/calibers would fit this stock. would the new action drop in or will i have to send it out to be fitted for the stock. i'm thinking a .338 win mag or along those lines.
thanks

IT WOULD COST JUST ABOUT THE SAME TO BUY A COMPLETE RIFLE.

    2greggs,

O.K. I'll bite. Why would anyone want to keep a stock in order to replace the most expensive parts, the barreled action? This is obviously penny wise, pound foolish.

The L691 is the longest action of this particular Sako series. If you want another cartridge, have a gunsmith take the barrel off and replace it with a new barrel. If you want to shoot a cartridge with a larger rim such as the .338 Win. Mag., the gunsmith will have to open the bolt face and adjust the rails, ramp and follower for the larger cartridge.

Another approach would be to have the barrel rebored to .338 and follow the rest of my statements.

    Best.
