I have a mod 12 win in 16 ga. it has a 26 inch bbl. marked cyl. bore. question will it hurt the value of the gun to have screw in choke's installed. The overall condition of the gun is 95 % with a plain barrel.

Absolutely YES! It will reduce the value of that gun by a minimum of 50% (more likely more). Relatively speaking, you have a real rare Model 12. To alter it it would be pure sacrilege. You would be much better off selling the gun as is, then buying a new gun configured as you desire.

I own two Model 12 16 gauge shotguns; one is a 26 inch barrel modified choke made in 1941 and the other is a 28 inch barrel full choke made in 1940. Both have their original wooden magazine plugs and are at least 98%. I still hunt with them, although only on bright sunny days![:D]
If you don't mind, what serial number range is your Model 12? I was curious as to when it was manufactured.

One of Winchester's selling points was "barrel quality". Mess with it you are no longer shooting what Winchester made, it could be any 16ga. pump.
There are other options, besides choke tubes. 16ga. parts are the cheapest of any Md 12 to buy. you can look for a front half assy. Mod./Full choke, and have it fitted. But most likely you will find a barrel with the receiver extention, and a magazine tube/action slide assy. for sale and buy that way to get a front half assy. Of course that will add value to your gun as well. Especially if you get the same vintage and have it serialized to the receiver.
Your gun is an ideal heavy cover shotgun just the way it is, (quail), or shooting doves in an orchard. I wouldn't mess with it, I would keep it just the way it is, and use it for the conditions it was meant to be used!

Look's like I'll keep it the way it is.I think that is a very wise decision! [^]
