Remington 760 25-06

Does anyone have any information on a remington 760 chambered in a 25-06. I picked up a sale bill the other day for an auction and there is a Remington 760 25-06 custom. I was wondering if this was actually chambered or if it is a custom make from the custom shop. Any prices?
Thanks

I have never seen a 760 in 25-06, and believe the custom part is the 760 action being rebarreled, or it has a 257 Roberts chamber that has been reemed to 25-06.

Remington made a special run of the 760 in 25-06 in 2005 as I recall. It is not a rebarrel, it is an original 25-06. If memory serves me correctly, it would have a maple stock, which looks unique, yet is attractive at the same time.

Are you talking about a 7600 in 2005 because i thought they didn't make the 760 then.

They have not made a 760 since the early 1980's. When Big Green revamped the lock up of the 742 semi auto to 4 lugs, they did the same with the 760 slide action. the semi auto became the 7400/Model Four, and the slide action became the 7600/Model Six.

    je6587,
does the caliber designation and stampings on your barrel look factory, or has the caliber been milled off and restamped? Pictures would be awesome!

    Hey guys;

I am new to this forum but have a lifetime of shooting, loading, competing and instructing experience.

I was very curious about this post as I was one of the "original" buyers of a 760 in the 270 cal. I tried from 1967 until I finally got rid of the danged thing to get it to work and for me to be able to use it. I really did want to shoot and enjoy that gun.

I am unaware of Rem ever building the 760 in the 25-06 but I guess it is possible. I do know that if it is anything like other 760 models I have seen or owned, you will be forced to use factory only ammo in it.
I bought my gun when I came home from the service in early 66 as a present to myself. I have been a 270 fan and thought the pump action would be the cats whiskers besides looking so cool.
But regardless of what I did, I was NEVER able to run reloads through it. I have heard others say the same about theirs.
I finally had a guy come into my range about 15 years ago and offer me a rem 700 "carbine" in 222 rem mag with a Redfield/widefield for it. He also had all the hand priming tools for the 222 and nearly 3000 brass for it all cleaned, sized and ready to prime and load. He traded me straight across because I had three extra mags and I had sent it to Magna Port to be ported back in 68 or 69.

What I am trying to say, from the apparent experience and knowledge on this site, I would enquire to others about the ammo or reload problems with those guns.
If they all had the same problems, you may only have to ask yourself if shooting factory ammo is what you want in order to own and enjoy this gun.

    Food for thought.

I stand corrected. It was the 7600, not the 760 that was chambered in 25-06 in 2005. A friend of mine bought one, and he likes it very well. He doesn't reload so I don't know how that works. I personally had 2 7500's and a 760 BDL in 30-06 and reloaded for it, and it was a tack driving rascal at 100 yards with 125 grain Sierra's, and at the time, I was using a snowbank for a gun rest.

UncleFudd -- did you try small base dies - usually does the trick for a pump or autoloader.
