Sticky Rem. 870

I've got a Rem. 870 LW 20 gauge that I just bought a slug barrel for. The action is kinda sticky, and takes a bit of effort to open once the bolt is locked forward into the barrel. I was wondering if touching it with a file or emery cloth in the right place would smooth it up and make it easier opening and closing. There's a little notch--is that where I should do it? Thanks

if this is a new shotgun in just needs some break-in. fire a case of shells or two.

My new 870 Supermag was sticking and Remington fixed, not sure what they polished but it came back correct anyways.

Many guns have been made valueless by a touch of a file in the wrong place unless you are a trained gunsmith I suggest either sending to Remington or to a local GUN-SMITH

Some local gunsmiths are better than others.

Send it to Remington. They already know what the problem is, and already know what the best fix is.

You can be sure that their fix is the one that involves the least amount of work, on the least amount of parts. That also sounds like the best fix to me.

New gun? if so, probably needs breaking in, especially if it one of the utility models. My wife has one and it took a few rounds of clays to loosen it up. Been fine ever since

Shoot a couple of baxes of shells, if that doesn't work you can always send it back to Remington.

It's not a new gun. Wasn't sticky at all with the old full choke barrel thats been on it.

Was it sticky before you put the slug barrel on it? is it a Remington barrel?

is it only sticky when loaded? or does it do it empty too?

I looked at my paper work and it says polish chamber, and throating on Remington barrel. I guess there was an issue with a tooling when building barrels so more than a few got out the door. Might take a cotton fiber (Qtip comes to mind) swab and see if it lifts any link when you swap the forcing cone area...
