Tokarev safety.

The Romanian Tokarevs are coming out with a add on safety. I was always told for safety reasons never carry a Tokarev with a round in the chamber and half cock. Will this new safety make it possible to carry safely? I am considering carrying it once in a while for concealed carry.

The only reason they have a manual safety, is because that is the only way the feds will let them be imported and sold in the U.S.

I am not familiar with the new imports with the manual safety. Chances are though, that the safety is only operable when the hammer is at full c**k, i.e. c**ked and locked. I personally would be hesitant to be carrying a loaded Toke like this, with some aftermarket, mickey mouse safety. My 2?.

    + 1 with rufe-snow

    I really enjoy my TT-33's.
Even after 'testing' the add-on safety, I don't rely on them.

Most scream 'crappy' to me, and that is just from what is seen from the outside.

The safety on the Romanian works as you say, and it also works in the half cock position. I, like you guys am also suspect of a "add on" safety. I was hoping some others had some positive experiences with these. They seem to just beg to be carried, but safety is paramount above all else. I will be repecting your advice. Thank you very much.

Tokarev add-on safeties are trigger block safeties as are many shotgun and rifle slider safeties and safeties located in trigger guards.
Hammer block safeties are better and striker or firing pin blocking safeties, best.
Tokarevs were intended to be carried loaded and at half cock (from the horses mouth in the USSR).
Condition of the half cock and full cock notches can be seen through an inspection hole in the hammer housing when removed from the frame.
If your safety, full cock notches and sear spring are in good shape and your safety blocks the trigger from moving the sear, the gun is as safe as any trigger block safety firearm.
Personally, I prefer the safetied Toks and have both Chinese and Polish trigger block safety versions.
All mine needed a little work to lighten up and operate smoothly.
Unlike Chinese 9mm Toks, most of which have shortened rebounding firing pins, the 7.62x25 pistols don't so their hammers cannot be lowered on a live round. Shortened firing pins will not fire hard primers or military 7.62x25 ammo.
Personally, I carry mine cocked and locked with safety on.

    v35:

Mine is the Romanian version with the flip safety (down fire up safe) just above the mag release. If you put the safety on it will let you half cock it or full cock but will not let the hammer move forward. The way it is set up it would seem that cocked and locked would be ok to carry. I have never carried one of these before.
