Ruger Mini 30

Hi to all again. I have been gone for a while, but am back in the game, so here is my question.
I am looking to purchase a Ruger mini 30, SS, with a walnut stock, and am having a hard time finding out the value of such an animal. Looks to be in great shape, shot very little, and the owner is a close family member. I just want to make sure he gets what it is truly worth.
Can any of you experts tell me the current value of such a rifle, other than looking up the info in the blue book?
Appreciate your input, and I'm glad to be back.

I have posted a lot on this gun, I have had for about 4 years and I guesimate 2000 rounds through it. It has a beautiful Ruger finish, wood, accessories, and assortment of pistol grip stocks and large cap mags as well as muzzle brakes and scopes. The trigger group is smooth, if stiff, but the firing pin is weak against the commie ammo, and misfires a lot. I figured out that CHEETAH ammo, South Aferican, brass cased and close to the cost of Wolf, is close to price to Wolf, but never misfires like the cheap Russian or Norinco stuff does (about one in 30). Aside from this it compares favorably in accuracy against an SAR-1, AK, but the mags SUCK. I suspect that if the AWB is sunsetted it may increase in value if someone makes some decent 30 round ammo mags that can stand being dropped on the ground, but wonder what it may be worth now used? Should I sell it and get another SAR-1? Those things (SAR-1) are indestructable, and reliable, if less accurate. I want opinions on both please.

Will the stock off a Mini 14 fit on a Mini 30 or vise versa???

Anybody have an opinion on this firearm. I'm thinking about buying a used one in excellent condition. I want a semi-auto and the .380 seems like the right calibur. Thoughts?Thanks,G36

I purchased an Arsenal Inc AK 47 a couple months ago, its my first AK type rifle. I've been very impressed with this rifle. I am now considering purchasing a Ruger Mini 30 and attaching a folding stock. Any experiences with this rifle? Thanks in advance for any comments.

Welcome back! I'd ask what they want and pay that. If you must set a price, I'd suggest $450 as being fair to both parties.

A search of SS Mini 30 completed auctions (that actually sold!) show them going for around $550.

He's gonna give you the good-guy price, right?[;)]

Thanks guys! Glad to be back! The $550 price is what I was thinking in my head, but I thought to be fair, I better check with you guys. This particular rifle has a scope and sling on it, and he is asking $625, so we are not too far out of the ball park.
Again, thanks for your input, always appreciated!

...Depending on the condition, one can be found for $400-$500, as with all guns one area of the country will be a little lower maybe, another higher.

...I really don't want to rain on your parade, and I hope you know, but the Ranch and Mini-30's are not know for accuracy,...more of a fun gun where decent accuracy does not matter. This is not my opinion, but a well known fact. I just don't want you to drop that kind of money, maybe add some "extras" ( a few more klinkies) only to be dissappointed that the accuracy lacks a lot to be desired.

...Another factor that is not as important as their lack of accuracy, to me anyway (Im kinda an accuracy nut myself) is the fact that the barrel heats up PDQ, more so than a lot of other rifles fired at the same rate...and quick/prolonged heat does not so good things to a rifle. Im not saying you would warp the barrel or anything close to that drastic, butt hey do over heat pretty easily.

...Like I said, I am NOT ragging on your gun, just wanted to make sure your are aware of some of their quirks...[;)]

Hey Blindhogg, no problem, that is why I posted in the first place, I don't know that much about that particular rifle, and where better to find info about it, than here? I really appreciate your honesty, and armed with that info, I can take the thing out, give it a go, and really see what it does.
    Again, thanks for the heads-up!

    BigBarn,

I had a mini 30 and a mini 14 before. I got rid of both. They are best described as area weapons. As long as the target is as large as a barn and doesn't mind you walking rounds into it, you should do fine. However, if you actually want to hit near where you are aiming and you really want to stick with the 7.62x39 round, then go with an AK. Of course, if you live in Kalifornia where ballistics are different than the rest of the world and it is all about the stock, then a mini 30 would be your only option.

    Have fun.

BigBarn.. try one yourself. You will be likely satified with the accuracy. Mine shoots fine. They are not target guns but very capable of shooting the end out of a pop can at 100 yd. freehand. At least mine will..[:D][:D]

I've 2 14's and a 30. All are a blast to shoot and accuracy is a-okay for me when I snuggle up and "target" shoot.[:)] Though when really hot with off hand rapid fire they'll go to minute of milk jug or sometimes minute of pizza box at 100 yds. (usual targets that are easily recycled)[8D]
