Hi all,
I need some clairification on a Winchester pre 64 standard westerner .264 mag. Did this gun come with a factory recoil pad or plastic but pad or both? What is the length of pull measured from the trigger to end of pad for both? Was the recoil pad the solid or vented type? I am considering buying one and am trying to determin if the stock has been cut. Thanks in advance.

The standard rifle had the hard rubber or plastic butt plate and the fwt had a ventilated rubber pad marked Winchester.

A rubber recoil pad on a standard Westerner is not correct. However, just because it has a pad added doesn't mean the stock was cut. I have a standard .264 Westerner with a pad, but the pad was simply added after removing the original plastic butt plate. As a result, the length of pull is much too long for me. Fortunately, however, I can easily return the rifle to factory condition by finding and reattaching the stock butt plate. Unfortunately, I don't remember a Westerner's standard length of pull. I have a Winchester brochure for the Westerner that contains all that data, but it's in a box in the attic. Perhaps someone with some documentation (Roger Rule's book?) can enlighten both of us. Thanks.

Thanks for your responses. There still seems to be some uncertainty about the butt plate. Snickers believes hard rubber or plastic while Fairlane66 believes plastic only. I am certain ventilated is not correct. I have seen them original with black plastic but the ones I have seen with hard solid rubber have been add ons. I am not an expert thats why I asked.

I think there is some confusion concerning the hard rubber butt plate. There is no plastic butt plate it is a hard rubber that is most often refered to as plastic. The recoil pads that are soft rubber were only installed on the featherweight .264 and they were ventilated red rubber and marked Winchester. The standard .264 rifle was sold with the hard rubber often refered to as plastic butt plate only.
