Hello there are at least 2 ways to put a 1911 type pistol recoil spring in . Given most of my experiance has been with 20 pound or less you can try both ways. #1 way is to get a good bushing wrench remove the slide and old 45 barrel and spring install the new barrel mount the slide with the spring guide in place install the slide stop pinturn the barrel bushing clockwise install spring and spring plug ,push spring and plug in until flush with end of slide using bushing wrench hold the plug down and turn bushing counter clockwise until plug pops into place.#2 way is dismount slide and remove all parts that are to be replaced install new barrel and recoil spring plug and barrel bushing in the center position. now holding the slide upside down and the barrel fully withdrawn in the slide start the free end of the and guide assm down the bottom of the barrel toward the front of the slide . as the free end of the spring contacts the plug push the guide forward with one thumb and hold the spring against the bottom of the barrel with the other thumb. Once the spring guide clears the barrel lugs you can hold the spring with onre thumb while holding the slide and spring with one hand turn the frame upside down and slide the frame on the slide until the slide stop pin hole lines up with the hole in the link install the pin part way turn the pistol upright and useing one hand on the grip and the other hand on front of slide move the slide almost all the way back until the dismount notch allows you to seat the slide stop pin .The #2 way is how most match pistols are taken down and put back together so you dont have to remove bushing..Hope this helps #2 is eaiser then it sounds."PRAISE THE HARDBALL GUN"
