I just purchased a new Springfield M1A, my question is which sling was the orginal (or proper) on the M14, a canvas or a leather type. The info I have seems to say either. Many thanks from a newbie to this rifle, Rich

I use the Military leather Model 1907?? David Fortier, writes for Guns and Ammo or Shooting Times wrote an article 2 - 3 months ago on the correct use of the sling. Very few users know how to use it properly. You might want to check the Web under "Fortier" see if you can find the article. Also, Brownell's sells an upgraded sling for about $55 that I bought and like.

Vietnam M14 used green nylon web sling with hardware like the canvas Garand sling.Canvas would not last long in the climate.
