I bought this colt ace from a guy a couple of days ago. He told me he bought it new from the Colt Custom Shop years ago. The only thing i thought was funny about it was that it was Electroless Nickel and not Blue. I thought that colt only made them in blue. I called colt today and they told me that they never made one in electroless nickle. I called the guy i got it from and he swears he ordered it new from colt. I know this guy realy well and he would never knowingly lie to me. Any of you guys have any thoughts[?] Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some pics.

It looks like there's a work order number on the custom shop label.
Write them a letter with all the info on the label and keep the reply
    with your records.

I think your seller told the truth . and I think the person you talked to at colt did not understand that you had the custom shop work order or he gave an answer off the top of his head NEVER SAY NEVER when it comes to guns . The pistol was made 1981 and during this time colt had some mix ups 45's with SM serial numbers and ACE with 70b and b70 serial numbers Now for what it is worth that is anybodies guess, But my WAG would be not much more then standard ACE in like condition. maybe in 50 years but not now. Nice pistol

Box label says nickel. I would not question it further.

It's real,,,I have one just like it still in the box. They were available from Colts Custom Shop only if I remember right. Should have "SM" prefix on serial or "70B" suffix. Late 1970's thru early 80's

you could always sell it to me if you disbelieve :)
