I try this again. I had a guy say he had info never forwarded it though. Any info would be great, web links, printed documents, anything please. I am doing some research on a gun I want to buy from a private owner. I am hoping you could give me and ideal where I might find more information on this gun. It has the art work engraved on the gun showing the 1868 to 1968 100th anniversary stamp on the right side. It's serial number is 1-003186. Any information you could give me on the gun would be appreciated. The seller is asking $400.

thanks

I went through my references. The only thing I could find, was a couple of lines in the Blue Book, that I'm sure your already familiar with. Nothing definitive. It seems odd that they would only make a commemorative model, for just one year? Never to produce any standard, mass market model .22 rifles after that? There is always the possibility, since 99% of their products were shotguns, that some other company made the rifles for them. It's hard to understand why/how Franchi could only develop/manufacture a sophisticated, semi-auto rifle and manufacture it for only one year?

I would post your questions on Rimfire Central. Since the folks there, are collectors/shooters, primarily interested in .22's. You might find somebody knowledgeable , or looking to buy a Franchi rimfire rifle. Unfortunately it's been my experience that just having a low production, virtually unknown firearm doesn't guarantee value. There has to be demand/competion from multiple interested parties for the firearm to have any great value. An obscure Italian made rimfire rifle, doesn't meet this criteria.

    dandyjimm,

It's only been 1 day since he posted the offer of sending the material to you. Maybe something came up and he got delayed, family? I realize that we live in this world based on the speed of electrons but maybe you should try contacting him to see if there is something you can do to help him get you this information to you. I have tried numerous e-mails from posters profiles and find that they are either dead ends or blocked, or full or... any one of a dozen reasons so try to contact him, it may be the fault of the e-mail system.

I did some brief searching and didn't turn up anything. Grasping at straws, you should try to contact the Franchi Collectors Forum and see what they know. Yes I know it's a shotgun forum but they might have some information that we don't. It might be that rufe-snow is correct with the supposition that this was a limited release as a one-time deal for the shotgun folks. This doesn't mean that it's collectible at all because it seems like it isn't. It could've been just a spiff for the shotgun buyers.

    Best.
