Kimber Help

Hi Guys;

I have a brand new Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II. When it is cocked, if I pull the trigger the hammer will drop even when I'm not activating (pressing on) the grip safety. This is a new, right out of the box, never fired pistol.

Any idea on what the problem could be. I hate to have to send it back and wait for Kimber to fix it.

Thanks very much.

Steve

.40 caliber ultra compact. Weapon jams since new. I sent it to Kimber and they say they can convert to 9mm. I do not want 9mm. Kimber has discontinued this model. Paid over $800 and $65 to ship to them. I want my money or .45. Any advise. Or anyone with the same problem?

I understand your reluctance to send it back - but assuming you described the problem correctly: Send it back! This is an unsafe condition, the company should have qc'd it, and caught it. Kimber has a good reputation as far as I know, they will make it right, on their dime - as they should. Alternatively: find a - reputable - local smith, and pony up the bucks to get a professional job. This involves something you want to have absolutely right.

When I had a problem with my Ultra Carry I sent it back to Kimber and they replaced the entire slide on their dime. So, I suggest sending it back to them, usually takes about 2 weeks or so to get it back. Maybe less since it does not sound like a major fix.

Thanks. I have no problem taking the entire pistol apart. I have several 1911s and have disassembled them in the past and replaced parts. I'm just no smart enough to figure out what is wrong with this one and was hoping someone else might hve an idea.

    Thanks again.

Honestly it needs to be sent back...
Or you could... "all these could cause the problem"
    A. replace Sear Spring
    B. streatch and refit stop
    C. Replace Safety

That is the low down from Jery Kuhnhausen's shop manual.
Never had that problem myself and that function is tested on every Kimber before it goes out the door....Hmmmm, odd indeed. I suspect that this may not be as New Out of the box as you have been led to believe.
FYI... Next time Buy a Colt GCNM.... Kimber is as over-rated as that bimbo blonde that used to have rat ears!!!! Way over produced to keep any value... and it probably the third most likey gun that you will see someone trying to sell at a gunshow, behind the SKS and AK...

seen it many times, the grip safety is ill fitted, someone took of more than necessary, give them a call they may just send you one

unless the sear spring is totally shot, and the grip safety stays in, the sear spring is not the culprit, the grip safety contacts to the trigger bow to prevent it from moving, when depressed it moves upward freeing the trigger bow, .010 is all the is need to to make this feature fail, and once the material has been removed your s.o.l.
