What would be the best fragmenting bullet size to use in my 270 for coyotes? As far as grain and etc.
Thanks

I've had good luck with 90-gr hollowpoints.
Here's the trick. Keep 'em under 3000fps, or they'll blow up right out of the barrel.
Give me a few minutes to find my notes and I'll get you the powder charge I used, too.
Well, I shoulda remembered that.
50 grains even of Varget gave me real good accuracy.
Your mileage may vary.
I used to shoot a lot of 90 grain Sierra HPs at varmints- velocity was well over 3000fps, no blowup until it hit the animal. If you're looking to save the pelt, I'd look at different bullets, or reduced velocity.
Ray, we're gonna have to ask the mods to move this one over to the reloading forum, because I have a bunch of questions. And we're gonna get this one locked up.
Just to start, what was your rifle?
Looking forward to sharing notes.

Ok my next question is can I buy ammo that has a 90gr bullet or is this something I am going to have to have someone load up for me? So far the lowest grain bullet I have seen is 130gr. I dont have a reloader and this is really going to be my first rifle other than a sks. Thanks again
Tony
I took it by your first post that you already had a 270.
I don't know of any manufacturers that load for a 90-gr. You'd have to load them to the best of my knowlege. If you don't already own the rifle and are looking for a coyote caliber, that will do double duty as a deer rifle, consider a 243 or 25-06. Both are flat shooters and have the potential to be very accurate with a wide variety of ammo.
