What would a P38 Walther bring back gun from WWII with a letter and the holster in almost mint condition be worth and what should I look for on the gun there's a lady that came by that I know her dad brought the gun back and she wants to sell it I didn't have my camera at work so I couldn't take pictures , But going on my description what do you think the value would be. I'm not this knowledgeable on this gun. Thanks for any help , Barbwired

I have a P38 with the letter "e" after the serial no.#. Can anyone tell me what the letter signifies? It was a bringback from WW11. Thank you.

Made by Walther in 1940. Magazines should be numbered to the weapon. I have a red Nissan that goes fast. Any idea of the value?[;)]

A bit more info is needed!
Any import marks? Do ALL the numbers match (inside and out)? Has it been refinished? Is this a Vet "Bring Back and if so any "Capture Papers"? Condition,,,any pitting, rust etc.????
Any one of these factors can make the difference between a $1500 collector and a $400 shooter.

I confess I have not seen a P38 (War time steel frame) "Shooter" in the $250 range in some time! Most "Beaters" in P38s (IN my area) fetch in the $400 + range.

    Mike,

First, Let me welcome you to the forums. Hope you stick around awhile..the reception committee today forgot to put on their smiley faces. Maybe they need a hug or something.

Second, posting pictures would be the most helpful way for people to identify the pistol in question. Go to photobucket and follow directions there...if of course you have a way to take a picture of the pistol in hand. As K pointed out a better description of all the proof marks would be a great help. And As I used to own a P-38 I have watched wartime P-38's not come below $400.00 unless someone really needed the cash. Modern P-38's/P-1's are usually are in the high 3's to low 5's
