Its some sort of rolling block in what looks to be .45ish cal. Barrel is about 32" long with quite a twist in the rifling. It is a center fire and has an ejector. No writting on it that I can make out other than a "36" and some weird marks on top of the chamber. Forarm is missing as is the butt plate and the rear sight. What is this thing? Any idea what year it was made? Whats it worth, should I buy it for $100? and could I find parts? Thanks very much for your help.

"should I buy it? and could I find parts?"... it depends on the price, if you can get it for the action (<$100) go for it. parts for almost any rolling block are scarce as hens teeth.

My first guess was that it was a Egyptian. Click on this link.

"BUT" the location of the front sight doesn't appear to be correct for a Egyption. Remington made and licensed so many R B's to so many folks in the 19th Century, that it's hard to say?

Yep thats it. What looks like the front sight in the 4th pic is actually the bayonet lug, not a very clear pic. .43 cal and needing that much work I think I'll pass on this one and buy a nicer remington in a caliber that I can find ammo for. Thanks for the link, I can at least tell the guy what he has there now. GB experts come through again.
