Is this 10/22 anything special?

I saw (and bought) this Ruger 10/22 from a small pawn shop today. Is it anything special or just one of many? It has a walnut stock, barrel band, no checkering, and a metal buttplate. Condition is easily 95% or better. It has an older Weaver .22 scope mounted. Serial number is 1919x. I believe it must be a fairly early model. The best thing was the price,$95.He also had another gun I liked a lot, a Remington 581. It was also almost perfect and it was also $95. If I can find a few more dollars somewhere, I'd like to get it too. The third gun I liked was an old Sears 30/30. It looked just like a pre64 M94 Winchester, even had a metal buttplate. It was $175. Finally, he had an Rem. 1100 with Vent rib and full choke. It was $175 but had lots of rust and pitting on the barrel. Still, it could be a good shooter. The stock was great. Thanks for any info on the Ruger.

Yes, early model as the later carbines (barrel band tells me that) had plastic butt plates, and the serial is about 6 million earlier than mine, I think! Nothing really VERY special, but the price was right for sure! The 581 I would take for under 100 in that cindition, the 1100 is likely not worth bothering with as you can get them in that kind of shape easily for that money. The 30-30 IS a Winchester, brand named for Seras. Likely not worth that $175 price tag 2 years ago, but now?...I would look hard and long at that one too!

Those 581's are sweet shooters. I love mine! For that price I would jump on it!

Thanks for your replies. I bought the 581 today. It's nice. The stock is lighter than the one on my 580, but in better condition. I'm putting a Tasco 3-9 World Class scope on it tonight.

If I were to buy it, it wouldn't be for sale. It's hard to let any nice gun go. He said he might list it on GunBroker. If so, I'll let you know.

Going by the "ruger serial number history" on the ruger website, your 10/22 was made in 1969.

The walnut stock on sportsters has not beeen a norm sonce the 1980s.

$95 is one heck of a deal since they are now $175 new and if you are really lucky you can get one at a gunshow for $150 private or more for dealer.

The older 10/22s are actually better than the new ones. For some reason, they are just built better.

If you want to boast and learn about your new firearm, log onto www.rimfirecentral.com and check out the 10/22 section.
