Stoeger 2000 vs Benelli SBE

I have heard some hype about the Stoeger 2000 being a great alternative for the common folk like me who can't lay out $1400 on a new SBE II. I am looking for new semi-auto shotgun for duck hunting and I hear that the stoeger is practically the same gun as the SBE, even using the same inertia driven bolt system. The only difference I see in reading reviews is the Stoeger doesn't apear to have the inertia recoil system in the stock, as does the SBE. Can anyone tell me about any other differences in the two guns and are there other guns in the same price range as the stoeger that I need to consider?

Thanks!

i've been told by several gun shops that the parts are the 2 guns are even interchangeable. stoeger is made in turkey, and QC is not as good, so fit/finish not as good. this can be important for a semi-autos, that need to work smoothly to cycle. i have heard of some cases of stoegers having chronic malfunctions/misfeeds, or i would have bought one myself by now!

Thanks for the reply. Surprisingly, you had the first negetaive feedback that I have read on this gun, but thtat's why I am asking the questions. After doing more homework, I have found that there are amnyincidents of jamming which is caused from the use of light loads. I guess the manufacturer has very specific directions on the use of loads to be fired through this gun. Could this perhaps be the chronic misfeed that you have heard about?

They work fine. The fit and finish is perfectly acceptable. Beretta....the owner of Stoeger doesnt just give out production contracts to another factory without making sure the quality is up there. Sure they arent as fancy looking or feeling, but you also dont feel as bad beating them up. Some Turk gun makers are actually pretty good now, while some have some catching up to do. Even Armalite and S&W are having guns made their now.

for what its worth... i have owned one and loaned it out twice... both time it didn't function as it should... i work at a retail store so i brought it back as we are direct with Benelli... hac a new trigger assy. put in it and i sold it... they are in no way the same boat as a SBE... not even close... we have had other 2000's go bad also... in fact, i just sent one back to benelli today for repair... my 2 cents worth....

I was trying to save a little money when the 3 1/2" 12ga. first came out. I bought a Charles Daly Maxi-Mag. What a piece of junk that was. It shot great for about a dozen shot's, then became a single shot. It wouldn't cycle a new round (shooting heavy 3 1/2 inchers mind you), sent it back to CD, they "fixed it". Good for another dozen - dozen and a half rounds, then same problem all over again. So I sent it back a second time and it was "fixed" again. This time I didn't even fire it when I got it back, took it right down to my local Benelli dealer (who I had to beg and plead with to take, he didn't want that piece of junk either) and bought a SBE. That was the best choice I ever made. I love them guns! They just won't quit! As a matter of fact, when the SBEII came out, I traded my origional SBE in on the II. The redesigned trigger guard was what sold me on that, the extra room for a gloved hand is really nice. I guess it's true what they say, you get what you pay for.
