[8D]Hello again from sunnny Fla.!
I happen to carry a .40 cal for concealed carry more often than not. Seeing the Ruger PC4 makes me wonder if I should get one for the simple fact that it matches my CC caliber. I have seen PC4s as LE trade-ins and started to wonder the reasoning for a .40 S&W as an LE rifle. What would be the use/need for this carbine in the trunk of a cruiser....as opposed to, say, a Mini-14? At the time I was LE the 870 was the ONLY long gun anyone carried.....
Also, I was just day dreaming about the PC4 being converted to 10mm. I'm only funning around with this question, but wouldn't the PC4 in 10mm dance circles aroung the 30 cal. carbine load?
I just read the P4 was being discontinued........

The concept behind pistol caliber "long arms" is to reduce the chances of an innocent being hit by a higher-energy slug from a rifle like the Mini-14/Ar-series.
LEOs in nM have had several choices for vehicle carry over the years; AR-style, shotguns, special purpose(sharpshooter arms), etc.
Tough to compare ballistics from one caliber to another, but the little M1 Carbine would still reign as distance champ against the 10mm in my (slightly twisted)mind.
I like the PC-4 concept, Marlin also made something similar in .45 ACP I think. The M-1 carbine is the same sort of idea, something between a handgun and a "real" rifle.
As pointed out for minmizing collateral damage but something else too and that is interchangeability between rounds. Imagine a pistol and carbine that an officer didn't have to carry two types of rounds for. Of course the problem with that is then someone will come up with a carbine round for the PC-4 and then the officer will be carrying two types of rounds that really aren't interchangeable, but look the same. Unless he wants to blow his pistol up as the carbine stuff will be hotter.
