I have read for a long time not to fire modern 308 ammo in an Ishapore 7.62,the pressures were to great,,,now I see alot of people advertising them as a 308,,it is safe to fire modern 308 ammo in one or not??? I would like to buy one but you cannot always find surplus nato rounds

These were made in 7.62 Nato cal. and were designed for this caliber, commercial .308 is generally loaded a bit hotter( higher pressure) than the Nato rd. I doubt the gun would be dangerious to shoot with commercial .308 but would not want to make a regular habit of it. I sugggest hand loading to Nato spec's if Military ammo is hard to find in your area.

One of the big makers (Rem or Win IIRC) makes a reduced pressure 308 load for lower recoil. 170grn bullet.

The modern made Ishapore L2s were made specifically for the 7.62 and you can fire all the ammo you want from it. If you find one take a look at the date of manufacture on the receiver - you'll see they're generally 1960s manufacture.
