Remington 1100 blew-UP

While hunting with my grandson, he inadvertantly plugged the barrel of a Remington 1100 20 gauge with mud and blew the barrel up when he shot the gun.
The remington 1100 is an early 1970 model. I think about 1971 or 72.
the portion of the barrel that fits into the receiver is 1 1/8 inches long. In the later year models the portion of the barrel that fits into the receiver is much longer (over 2" I think).
The serial number of the gun is L252621K. There is no marking on the barrel that seems to identify the barrel further.
I need some help getting another barrel and or identifying this barrel

From Remington's website:
Replacement barrels for older 1100 and 870 20 Ga. shotguns.
Question
I just purchased a new barrel for my older 20 Ga. shotgun. It won't fit, why?
Answer
Early Model 1100 and 870 20 Ga. shotguns were built on the 12 Ga. frame. The serial number ends in an "X" or a "N". The barrel guide ring (gas cylinder) brazed to the barrel, was a 12 Ga. ring. These barrels are no longer available from the factory as they were discontinued in 1978. The barrels sold now are for the LT 20, which is built on a narrower frame. Its smaller barrel guide ring will not fit over the large frame magazine tube.
On our site we have a listing of obsolete parts dealers that may offer replacement barrels for your 20 gauge. Go to the Support - Parts Information section than choose "Parts for Older and other Firearms".

Best.
But more to your problem, I've purchased a few barrels from eBay (one full choke for my 1100), just watch out your not getting into a bidding war with Donald Trump! Just keep an eye out and don't be in a hurry to get the first one you see. You'll pay less then factory or gun parts places. Good Luck! ...Mark
celse,,yours is the wrong barrel,,he has a LW ,,,not a standard or a LT or a LWT,,I have 2 LW's over in the safe,,no other remington 1100 barrel will fit his reciever because of the SHORT 1 1/8" tang..if needed let me know and I will drag them out, take them apart and take/post pictures,,,,,
