Enfield extractor spring

The extractor spring of my NO 4 MK1 Enfield fell out of the bolt after a few rounds. This is a surplus rifle and was the first time shooting it. Can anyone give me some advice as to determining if the bolt head or just the spring should be replaced? I see that there is different size of bolt heads as well. What size do I need for the No 4? I don't know much about the mechanics of the Enfield could use any counsel.

Hello the bolt heads were a means to chose for the correct HEADSPACE you really need a go-nogo gage to chose the best match for your rifle.

YOu just need a spring. Most of the currently available No 4 rifles were imported from Turkey. Most I have handled have had a broken, missing or weak extractor spring. Their "Gunsmiths" seemed to make parts out of whatever scrap they had at hand.

I would check your headspace, likely it is out of spec. IIRC, The British allowed .080" on their "field" gage. SAAMI only allows .070".
