I have a bunch of Thompson Center barrels and I was wondering how I tell the encore Barrels from the contender barrels. This is likely a stupid question, but just not my area of knowledge. Thank you

usually contender barrels are in low power rounds , 22lr, 223, 30-30, 6mmtcu, 7mmtcu, 7x30 waters, 45-70 and most of your revolver type cartridges and came in lenghts of 10" , 12" , super 14", super 16 and 21" carbine

encore barrels are most often found in the higher pressure stuff 22-250, 243, 308, 30-06, 7mm mag and larger ,, most of the pistols barrels are 15" of course this is no where near all of them , you should try looking on their web site ate their barrels charts

here are a couple of different sites that might help you out

bpost58 makes a great point that i had forgot about , my encore barrels are marked Encore in front of the caliber where as the contender barrels are marked Thompson Center Firearms in front of the Caliber

Although Contender barrels are usually chambered for lower powered cartridges, there are some chamberings in common - 375 JDJ & 45/70 for example.

The underlug on the Contender is smaller than the Encore & measures 2.15" front to back; the underlug on the Encore runs 2.5" front to back. The hinge pin on the Encore is slightly larger than the Contender.

Most Encore barrels from the factory are marked Encore. Factory Encore barrels tend to be of 15" length; Contender barrels tend to be 14" in length.
