S&W 57 advise....

So what are the differences between the original 57, the -1, -2, and the "Mountain Gun" (they messed up a pretty gun with that extra engraving)?
I'll use it. It will get about 100 rds a month shoved down the pipe and carried for 3 months of the deer season, so I'm not looking for a safe queen.
The Ruger BH I have now ain't cutting it. While I'm not a BIG man, them grips is just too small for me to hang on to it. So.....I wanna step up to the Smith.

Watt sez you?

The S&W model 57 was introduced in 1964.

The 57-1 came in 1982 when they eliminated the pinned barrels and counterbored cylinders in the magnums.

In 1986 the nickel finish was discontinued.

The 57-2 came in 1988 when a new yoke retention system was adopted as were a radius stud and floating hand.

The -1 -2 -3 etc in the Smith line are engineering changes to improve the guns, save money and simplify manufacturing.

Good choice. I've carried a 657 for the last 5 years as bear back up when elk hunting in Oregon. All that rain & crappy weather & the stainless still looks fine. You might want to use the 657 instead of the blued 57.
