    First, welcome to the forums.

You haven't provided near enough information to date the gun. Primarily being the serial number, you will have to take the barrel off to see it. (providing it's the origional barrel) You said it is an A 5, does it have a gold trigger (lightweight) or blue (standard). What guage is it, barrel length, matt barrel or vent rib. choke? * = full, *- = Imp Mod ** = mod, **- = IC, or does it have the invector choke. (Newer models) Does it say "made in Belgium" then there will be a Canadian import city, Quebec?
Browning quit making shotguns in Belgium during the 70's, thereafter made by Miroku, Japan- still high quality but not collectable. In the late 90's mfg shifted to FN factories in the States.
Please post as much as you can and I or someone will try to help.

It is not necessary to remove the barrel to see the serial number... it is deeply stamped on the bottom forward edge of the receiver.

Sorry I thought you got the age on the under side of the gun. numbers on barrel are 3995 & A 541. It has a standerd trigger, 16 gauge, 28 inch barrel no vent rib full choke, made in belgium, with St.Louis on top. thank you

Can you post a picture of your gun's serial number?

Hmmmmm... interesting. I will have to do some searching to see if I can come up with an answer that makes sense.

Edit: Where is the safety located on this gun (front or rear of the trigger guard)?

That makes it a post-war production gun, and narrows the manufacture timeframe to somewhere between 1947 - 1957 (my guess is that it was 1947).

I just got off the phone with browning they told me this gun was made in 1953, she said the R code started in 53 and with it being such a low number 1953 would be the year. Thanks for the help bert.
