Question for the Experts about a Hungarian Pistol

My neighbor just showed me a little pistol that he has had for some time. The pistol is marked on the left side of the slide: P Mod 37 Kal 7.65. I was able to find that the Hungarians made these pistols for the Germans during WWII but I was wondering if the 7.65 meant that it was chambered in the .32Auto or another round of some sort. Were these .32 Autos and would modern ammo be safe to use in them?

.32 Auto, is the correct ammo. In my experience, they are very substantial sturdy handguns. As is always the case, if you have any doubts about the safety of a firearm? Take it to a competent gunsmith for inspection and test firing.

It is known as a "Femaru", it was made by FEG IIRC, before the Nazi occupation as well, during the war it was called the "Pistole Mod. 37".

Again, IIRC it was issed to Luftwaffe crews

Thanks for the replies guys. I was mainly asking because my neighbor was under the impression that it fired .380 ammo. I will let him know that it should be chambered for the .32 Auto and if he has any further doubts to take it in for a check up by a gunsmith.

    Thanks again for the information

I think the prewar pistols may have been available in .380, but the ones made under Nzai occupation were .32 only

As I understand it, the Hungarian issue pistols were .380 and lacked a manual safety. The Germans took over and had them made in .32 with a thumb safety.

Thank you for that additional information regarding the manual safety. His definitely has one so that should make it chambered for the .32 Auto.
