I`d leave it at 18.5 inches. Randy Weaver can tell you why.

18.5" will keep you out of jail. Shorter is not in the cards.

I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

hi,,,BEFORE you do it,,,contact the ATF in pennsylvania,,,it can be done for a 1 time tax on a pistol barrel converted to carbine under 16 inches,,,and i'm sure it can be done to a shotgun as well,,,but i don't know as of how short on a shotgun barrel it is,,,AND IF YOU CONTACT THE ATF ABOUT THIS MATTER,,,THEY WILL KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE,,,THEY KNOW WHERE I LIVE so get all the information you can on this subject BEFORE you do it,,,i did the right thing by having a gunsmith put muzzle brakes on all my 14 inch barrels (6 of them for a VERY reasonable price,,,$350.00 )to make them 16 and 1/8 inches,,,the tax is between $200 and $250 per serial number on the frame,,,and don't forget,,,THEY WILL KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE,,,don't do it illegally,,,if caught, federal inprisonment and a very substantial fine,,,BEEN THERE,,,DONE THAT,,,WON'T DO IT AGAIN.[:D]

You will need to apply on an ATF Form 1 for permission to make a short-barrel shotgun (SBS). The Form 1 will get you a NFA tax stamp. It will cost you $200, plus you will need to get your chief law enforcement officer to sign the form. Plus fingerprints, plus recent photos. Send all that in to the ATF and they will send back the approved Form 1 giving you permission to make your SBS. DO NOT !!! cut the barrel before they send you the approved Form 1. Here is my favorite SBS, a Serbu Super-Shorty built on an 870 receiver.

if you want to leave a pistol grip only, you can buy an AOW shotgun with a short bbl for a $5 transfer, or at least you could

If you don't do it right, not only is jail time a possibility if you get caught but you'll also never handle a gun again.

Save yourself time and trouble and just buy one from the Upper darby, PA police. they sell confiscated sawed off shotguns according to Fox News.[:o)]

Besides the $200 short-barrel shotgun tax I believe you'll also have to have the barrel cut by someone who holds the proper "manufacturer's" license.

This will be the most expensive pipe cutting job you'll ever see.
