hello all, I am trying to mount a scope on a late 80's production winchester model 70 in 300 weatherby mag caliber, i purchased a set of leupold "std" two piece bases for a post 64 rifle and apon mounting them up i noticed the rear base sits lower then the front, assuming it was as base that was milled wrong i purchased another set and sure enough its the same thing. Looking through an old redfield catalog I noticed that they list the post 64 model 70's scope bases seperate for a 300mag and 375H&H over "standard" calibers....Leupold does not. are the reciever dimentions differnt for the 300magnum? what bases do i need?

deerhntr; you need to write to the Winchester people, and find out just exactly what you are dealing with as far as the receiver demensions are. Things change with every rifel you purchase, and every scope you try to mount. If you have no luck there, go to the scope people that you are dealing with, and ask them.good luck! [:o)]
