Just wanted to share........I picked up a Mossberg 500 yesterday. 12 gauge, pistol grip, barrel heat shield and forward pistol grip. Very nice condition and got it for $135.00!!!! I think I got a pretty good deal.

i just picked up a mossberg 500A 12guage with the 28" bbl, i guess it is their "field" model, i want to put a 18" bbl on in, where do i get replacement barrels? also, the trigger is one of those gold lookin things, how easy is it to change to one of the black ones, or is it simply cosmetic and could be painted black? also, i got it at a wall mart for $209 sounded like a good deal, was it? thanks for the replies.

209 is what I paid for one NIB in '87....

You can often find barrels at pawn shops, etc. Then its a matter of a pip cutter in the right spot :)

The factoy sells them check out mossberg.com. 209 for a new one is pretty good. I bought mine used 200 bucks but with 5 chokes a slug barrel and a scope mount. Best beat through the bush shotgun you can come by.

You better make darn sure you KNOW what you are doing and understand the BATFE rules on a barrel length if you cut one down yourself. A few thousandths of an inch error is good for 10-20 in the clink.

I picked up a barrel for my Mossburg Maverick (will interchange with the 500) on GB for $35. Put the barrel on your frame, put a dowel down the barrel until it hits the bolt face. Mark the dowel at the end of the barrel. Remove dowel, make a mark 18-1/2" above the bolt end, place dowel on the barrel with the first mark at the muzzle end and mark the barrel at the 18-1/2" mark. I cut my barrel on a lathe; if you use a pipe cutter, make sure you remove the burr. Emery
