Unusual Browning FN 1922

This is a recent purchase of a fn 1922 from a widow of an 41-45 vet. He was stationed in France and was an M.P. in Nuremberg during the trials. It it is stamped in all the proper places with both the military acceptance stamps WaA140's and Military test proofs (eagle over swastika in a circle). Serials are 763xxxa in all the right spots. Here is my problem, it is nickel plated with some kind of clear grips (bakelite?). Clip is nickel plated on the bottom but no serial. Holster is looks like an late Nazi issue ersatz paper holster but it is black while all others I have seen are brown? She stated that he brought it back in '45 this way but is unsure how he got it. I have looked all over and cannot find another period 1922 nickel plated. I have heard of 1911's with plexiglass from planes for pictures of their girlfriends/wives to be inserted, but these grips are seem to be to well done. Very nice smooth bevels on edges with inserts into the edges very uniform to look like pearls. Any ideas's would be greatly appreciated.

On the the other hand it's never been substantiated that any Model 1922 Browning made by FN during the German occupation of Belgium, was ever nickel plated.
