Does anyone know where I could get a mag follower for a 1895 in .405 win? I tried Buckingham. Thanks Paul

Could you factory order a 1895 crescent stock Winchester with a sling. If so what would the sling mounts look like?

I have noticed some of the 1895 Winchesters are advertised for British 303 caliber ammo and some say 30 Gov 03. Is there a difference in the ammo?

Did winchester chamber the mod. 95 in 30-03 caliber? Thanks.

    Good evening from Northern Minnesota!
my wife's great grandpa had a winchester 1895 in 405 with the Serial #37067. I am wondering what year it was made? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And strangely enough, they offered it for a number of years after the 30-06 was introduced.

Hi, Bert: givette here. Just read your post above. Do you know why the mfr. kept 30-03's coming off the assembly line after the 30-06 cartridge was designed? Production inertia? I know this Q. sounds silly, but it peaked my interest. Thanks, Joe

Thanks. I have a friend that I think has one. Just need to get a look at it. What caliber markings should I be looking for? Thanks.

Geri: In addition to the sage advice you have already received, look to see if the gun may be marked 30 GOVT 03...If memory serves me correctly, I can dimly recall running across an early 30-06 marked as 30 GOVT 06. I may be wrong, but just keep this info in the back of your mind when you eyeball the rifle. Best, Joe

    .30 wcf.

.30 wcf denotes the 30-30 Winchester cartridge, I don't think you would find a Winchester 95 chambered in .30-03 marked that way.

Wasn't there another term for 30-40 (Krag)?

I'm relying on faulty memory here, but I thought my father's 1895 - in 30-40 - is marked 30 cal. Gvmt (or is it 30 cal U.S.)?...

Again, it's been a few months since I've looked that closely at it, but that's what I thought it said.

It has been a long time since I owned any Winchester Model 95's so I'm relying on a fading memory, but I believe the Model 95 calibers mentioned in this thread will have the caliber marked as follows:

    30-03 - 30 Gov't .'03
    30-40 Krag - 30 U.S.
    30-06 - 30 Gov't .'06

I'm sure current collectors here on the forum will have better information

    I believe that it was offered for two reasons;

    (1) Winchester already had the tooling and dies on hand,
    (2) Some people wanted the 30-03 because it was factory loaded with a 220 grain bullet versus the 150 grain that was standard for the 30-06.
