30 cal carbine

thought about getting one of these, short easy to carry in small pickup,etc....see universal , IAI, etc....any pro or con advice appreciated....thanks

Well, the dept of civilian marksmanship is once again selling GI issue carbines. Inlands. IMHO, far better than the Universal carbine. Go to their website for details. Price is under $500. Carbine is a light, handy rifle, so long as you observe the limitations of the energy of the .30 carbine. For a truck gun, tho, you might consider an SKS.

Sorry, you are a few weeks too late; CMP has sold out their Inland carbines. They will offer additional carbines in September, but at a higher price.

A USGI carbine bought on the resale market is still a better buy than one of the commercial copies. But, I agree with 11b6r that, for the money, an SKS might be a better buy.

I would agree with the others on this. If this was 20 years ago I would have said that the M-1 Carbine is the best "truck" gun around, but today they have just become too valuable. Just like in 1964 it was perfectly OK to destroy a 1957 Chevy Bel Air in a demo derby; today a person would be hot on site for trying a stunt like that.
Today there are many great little rifles that would work as a "truck" gun. A SKS, Marlin Camp 9 or a Ruger PC9 would all be great choices.
