Anyone know of where I can look up the date of manufacture?

OK, bear with me...this one has the S/N on the left side of the receiver, and the model info on the right side. Nothing on the bottom. Now, the "top" portion of the receiver (behind the hinge-pin and underneath the two barrels) has "20 AY" stamped. Other than that, the top of the left barrel has a Circled 5 and the right side a Circled 22. Do I have to take the foregrip off and look under there for the letter you speak of? Thanks for the assistance

Well, I took the foregrip off, and there were no markings of any kind under there. Question: The serial number does start with a letter, will that assist in any way?

Take the barrels off. Circle letter should be on the watermark.

    What is the watermark?

OK, I took the barrels off, and the only re-occuring stamp I found everywhere was the same "20 AY"

No circled marks anywhere (unless I missed the watermark)

"Circle letter should be on the watermark."... i think he means 'water table', thats the flat part of the receiver that the barrels 'lay' on when the action is closed.

Thanks, Mike Whiskey. As I said before, I removed the barrels and found no circled marks. Is it possible the DOM is coded in the Ser. No. ?

If it has a serial no. preceded by "A" it is more than likely from 1969 or 70. The GCA (Gun Control Act of 1968 first required serial numbers on ALL Firearms. Prior to that many cheaper (in $$) guns had none such as the Win. 69 72 and 67 even though they were well made guns and Win. did put them on the 61 and 62. The Stevens 311 was a low dollar gun, around $67 at that time and also didn't carrry a number starting late 1968 that changed. I have a nice 20 guage 311 from 1969 and it has on the left side an A 126XXXX
