I see an auction for this pistol going for $4000. Ihave one in better shape with a holster and gun stock. Are they really worth this much?

Anything is only worth what someone is willing to give for it. I would say that 4k for a 1917 DWM Luger is rather steep, even if it is numbers matching down to the mag. Without looking at the particular pistol its hard to judge. If you post a link to the auction I am sure the resident Luger pros would be more apt to help you.

Now if the gun has capture papers, matching holster, some rare variation or a former owner who was famous can skyrocket the value alot. Lugers are alot like old 1911s. Some go for a 400 and some for many many thousands and the difference can be small sometimes.

If it has a stock and/or snail drum it could fetch that. Without it is a bit steep. Is that $4000 an actual bid or just a seller starting point?

There is a Luger forum where all the Luger specialists hang out. You can probably find it on google. I would give it but my #1 computer is down.

It depends on the model. We need to know what model luger you have, matching, etc.
