I was given an old gun that says 38 - it is a 6 shot revolver no other markings but symbols - would this shoot 38 special rounds?

Also have a Burgo that through research was outlawed by the gun act of 1968 - 8 shot revolver made in Germany - what does this mean to me?

If the revolver is not marked .38 Special then it most likely chambered for one of the other .38 cal cartridges. Don't fire .38 special cartridges unless it is marked for .38 Special.

I am not familiar with the Burgo revolver but if it was "outlawed" by the Gun Control Act of 1968, it probably means importation of it was prohibited. I don't think it made a gun contraband that was already legally in the US. Did your research show what part of the GCA 1968 "outlawed" the Burgo?

    Herschel,

Thanks, yes it was because it was an 8 shot revolver - very low end. Was my Dads so will keep it just because of that. Shows value only at $25-$50.00. The 38 was also one he got from a relative and just wondering if it fires. Will take to local gun shop and see what they have.

Probably 38 Smith and Wesson. A cast of one of the cylinders would say for sure. Could also be 380 revolver. Or a few others.

If it aligns and times properly and locks up tight, it is probably safe, but see what the smith says.

It could take 1 of several 38cal RIMFIRE rounds, or it could take one of several 38cal CENTERFIRE rounds.
