AR-15 feeding problems

I need help if anyone is willing to lend a hand!I recently purchased a "new" AR-15. well i called the company that "made" the gun.It turns out that the company sold the stripped lower and what i bought was a "parts" gun. It has a 20" heavy barrel on an A3 flat top upper. It came with one 8rd mag which feeds flawlessly. I bought colt factory 30rd mags and for the life of me i cannot get them to feed.....please help![:)]

What kind of feeding problems is it having? is it not picking up a round from the mag? Is it just jamming it solid against the feed ramp? Double feeding?

What caliber is this rifle??

it would ram it right into the feed ramp nothing pushed the bullet up and it was generally the left bullet and on the last about 3 or 4 rounds the bolt would slide right over the bullet causing scoring on the casing

the caliber is 5.56 nato/.223

Sounds like the feed lips aren't letting the round up high enough to feed. I don't like the Colt mags, get a new one of most any other brand and try it. If the other mag works ok, then it is probably the mag.

right well actually im about to run a few more tests with it but my father took a dremmel and modified one of the colts but i was just messing around and both the altered and un altered just fed 5 rounds flawlessly but i still am having the problem of the last two rounds being passed over by the bolt

Sounds like mags as well. I had a coupe bad FAL mags that would cause the bolt to just skip over the next round. Do you know what brand the upper receiver is?

I recommend the new Brownells mags. They are EXCELLENT and inexpensive.

ok so heres what happened on the altered colt i hand cycled 20 rounds of wolf hollow point ammo through the gun the first time around the 18th bullet jammed and on the second time around the 16th bullet jammed no failure to feed last two rounds

there are no indications as to the manufacturor of the upper receiver unless you know of a place they hide their info you could tell me about....haha.
